What would you do to make your loved one happy when you have limited resources? In the story "The Gift of the Magi" by O' Henry, Della, the main character battles against poverty to buy her husband Jim a present. The main themes that O' Henry is trying to show in the story are Love, Generosity, and Empathy. These are the morales that Della is living throughout the story. She constantly worries of her, appearance, and overall pleasing Jim. What I love about this this authors writing is that he makes all the sentences he writes important. The point is that a women is frantically getting a Christmas gift for her husband, but doesn't have the money. O' Henry put so much effort in describing the little things in the story. And it seems that the big parts, like the climax, doesn't have a lot of effort to describe it. Although I think the plot was pretty plain the author makes the story come to life. At the end of the day I was entertained by this well written and thought out story.
