The first individual player that I adored in soccer was Mario Balotelli. I came to love Super Mario in the Manchester City 2011-2012 Barclays Premier League season. Mostly because he assisted Sergio Agüero on a goal that secured the league title. In the Winter of 2013 Mario was transferred back to the league in his own country, specifically Milan for £20 million. For the duration of the season Balo and Milan played well and earned themselves a 2nd place spot in the league table.
In the past season Milan was a flop. They were losing to teams who almost got relegated to lower leagues. El Shaarawy a Milan left winger was injured, along with other crucial Milan players. Thus impacting the teams performance. The manager Pellegrini was sacked, and all the fans knew it was time to rebuild. Rebuilding required funding, and the way to get funding was to sell Mario Balotelli.
Last August Mario was sold back to the English Premier League. My loyalty to Mario was steadfast, however the transfer created a dilemma. Mario was transferred to Liverpool FC. My favorite club, Manchester City is a major competitor with Liverpool, so I really didn't know which club to root for!
By the start of the season I had decided that I would stay with my favorites, Manchester City. But I would also still have lots of respect to Mario. It's going to be strange when Mario squares off against Manchester this season, but I am very interested to see the match. I will always stick with Mario on the Italy matchups, just maybe not with Liverpool.
